Church Leadership

Leadership Board, Ministry Planning Team & Other Ministry Teams

During the August 2023 meeting, our Administrative Council moved to adopt the Simplified Accountable structure or One Board Model for 2024 church leadership. This model moves St. Luke UMC from four administrative committees (trustees, finance, staff-parish relations, and church council) to one Leadership Board encapsulating all responsibilities and authority of the previous four separate administrative committees.

Moving to this new leadership model allows St. Luke UMC to reduce the number of monthly meetings and people serving in administrative roles and frees up resources for hands-on ministry and engagement in our community!

Starting in 2024, St. Luke UMC will move to a new church leadership structure that includes a Leadership Board (administrative committees), a Ministry Planning Team, and other Ministry Teams specific to St. Luke UMC (Columbarium, Scholarship, Investment, etc).

FAQ

What is the Leadership Board?

The duties and responsibilities of the Leadership Board reflect the four traditional administrative committees laid out in the Book of Discipline: finance, personnel (SPRC), property (Trustees), and administrative council. The Leadership Board works collaboratively with the pastor and in conversation with the Holy Spirit to plan the church’s long-term ministry, mission, and vision goals by aligning the church’s resources (time, energy, people, facility, budget, etc).

The Leadership Board will meet monthly and consist of 9 members, the lay leaders, and delegates to the annual conference (all of which have a voice and vote).

This simplified board allows a streamlined structure with built-in accountability and is allowed by Paragraph 247.2 of the 2016 Discipline of the UMC.

What is the Ministry Planning Team?

The Ministry Planning team works collaboratively with the Leadership Board and the pastor(s) to plan ministry events throughout the calendar year. They will advocate to continue vital ministries within the congregation and discern when it is appropriate to try new things. The Ministry Planning Team will meet at least quarterly to do short-term ministry planning and will empower other ministry teams and laity to serve and/or participate.

What are other Ministry Teams?

Other Ministry teams are specific to St. Luke UMC. They include but are not limited to columbarium, scholarship, investments, scouting, congregational care, etc.
